Potential hidden gems on draft
day - when these guys slip and are available in later rounds - grab
them!
A look back at our 2010 Sleepers - In no particular order
Kareem Huggins - RB, TB
Looks like Huggins making waves and could be the #2 guy in Tampa. And when you're #2 behind Cadillac Williams, your odds of seeing some starts this season are good.
Brian Westbrook - RB, SF
Now signed with the 49ers, we'll watch Westbrook very closely as there's a #2 spot up for grabs and Westbrook (when healthy) has more in the tank in our opinion. And behind often injured Gore an enticing spot for FFB owners!
CJ Spiller - RB, Buf
Perhaps still too early to get too excited, but there is opportunity and we loved Spiller in college - problem here is that this one won't go under the radar for long if he claims the starting role soon - if you have an early draft, keep an eye on Spiller in the early mid rounds.
Michael Bush - RB, Oak
He appears to have best power/speed balance of the Raiders three headed attack. If the Raiders come to their senses and feature Bush more he could put up some nice fantasy numbers.
Chad Henne, QB, Mia
We're big on experience at the QB spot in the NFL and Henne doesn't have a ton but he certainly seems to have all the tools needed to be successful NFL QB. Wouldn't recommend he be your first option on opening day but hiding him on a deep roster might payoff.
Devin Aromashodu, WR, Chi
Strong finish to the season when he finally saw playing time, should challenge for a starting spot this season and has explosive play making ability.
Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Det
A force in the red zone and before a knee injury ended his season has putting up solid TE numbers. If he comes back 100% from the knee injury he's worth a look.
Atlanta D
They have a pretty soft schedule this year and as their offense gets better their D will be asked to do less. They get healthier this year and worked in the off season to improve their defense.
Jermaine Gresham, TE, Cin
A very talented pass catcher coming out of college, Gresham missed the entire season last year with an injury, back and healthy he's a dangerous weapon and benefits from solid WRs in Cinncy that must get covered - with LBs on Gresham he'll pile up big yards.
Hakeem Nicks, WR, NYG
The potential is there, no doubt - it will be very tough for the Giants not to get the ball to Nicks this season.
Alex Smith, QB, SF
We swore a few years ago we'd finally stop putting this guy on this list but he's got an improved offensive line and some very strong receivers. And another year of experience.
New York Giants D
Injuries really hurt this D last year, healthy in 2010 plus some new faces should make this D a top 10 option on your D/ST board.
Jahvid Best, RB, Det
Tough to get too excited about any Lions feature player but the door is open for Best to be the featured ball carrier starting on opening day. The only concern here is how much trust he'll get in goal line situations but he could rack up big yards this season.
Matt Forte, RB, Chi
Many owners will be gun shy after Forte didn't live up to overly lofty expectations last year, but he shouldn't fall to far from grace - he remains a tough runner that can take a pounding. But as much as anything he should get opportunities catching the ball this season.
Devin Thomas, WR, Was
With McNabb in town Thomas has a chance to have a huge season, he's got the size and speed to make some noise. He may still be available in the 10th round and he's a potential #2 WR on your team!
GUYS TO AVOID
This list is just as important! Watch for sleepers but avoid these potential problems (at least avoid them too high)....
Eli Manning, QB, NYG
Eli is a solid QB but he's over valued on a lot of draft boards.
Steven Jackson, RB, StL
We love Jackson as a healthy RB on a balanced offense. I'm not sure he can stay healthy and I know there is no balance on offense for the Rams. He's a high risk high reward guy and that's tough way to spend a #1 pick.
Jay Cutler, QB, Chi
We're not sure Cutler is cut out for a Mike Martz offense - he throws too many picks.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Ari
Absolutely one of the best in the game in recent years....BUT....consider this recipe for a fall - No Kurt Warner, No Anquan Boldin and he's now 27 years old having caught a lot of balls the last few years. If we could get Fitgerald with some value as our #2 WR we'd be thrilled but he's seen as an elite WR by too many and we just aren't completely sold we'll see it this year.
UPDATE - Midway through the pre-season now we add injury concerns (although minor) to a list of why we worry about taking Larry Fitz too high in any draft.
Percy Harvin - WR, Min
Favre back seemed to be good news, but Harvin has always had injury concerns - now factor health concerns and he's a scary pick.
Tim Tebow - QB/WR, Den
First pre-season game, hurt. We rest our case.
More sleepers and players to avoid posted throughout the pre season...
