The final few rounds of a fantasy football draft are rather uninteresting and all look about the same. People scraping up players who they hope will surprise and/or recapture past glory. At this point in the draft – why not…..

With our pick in the 13th round we selected the Tennessee Titans defense which we have ranked #10 on our cheat sheets so we’re very happy with this 13th round selection.

Other 13th round selections we liked….

13.05 Matt Hassleback – we’ve always been a big fan of Hassleback. The Seahawks pass happy offense helps and perhaps if Hassleback is finally healthy he’ll return to some big numbers. Plus in their division they get to play some very soft defenses.

13.11 Ricky Williams – the talent remains, and another season of getting back in full football shape behind him and the Dolphins a run heavy team this is a nice risk/reward pick.

It was all on our Twitter page!

As you’ll see on Twitter round 11 started with a defense. That’s about right in a 15 round draft – IF it had been the first D taken. But this was the 5 defense taken in this draft.

As we face our 11th round pick we continue to look at depth. There are 5-7 QBs we’d be fine with for our number 2. We already have 4 RBs in a 2 RB no flex league so a 5th isn’t a wise play despite our strong belief in RBs for fantasy football and we see about 4-6 WRs we’d be satisfied with as our 5th wideout.

We would normally glance at the available team defenses at this point but an unusually high number are gone at this point. Interestingly – and this may very well change on our cheat sheets over the next several weeks – our #1 defense remains available despite 5 defenses already taken. We are constantly evaluating our player rankings (which includes D/ST rankings) and perhaps we’ll find this is simply an early season oddity but it’s tough not to take a close look at defense here with only 5 picks left.

With the 3rd pick in the 11th round FantasyDraftEdge.com selects Steve Smith, WR, NYG
This is Smith’s 3rd season – a season in which we see many guys really breakout – and he should move into a starting role and move to the slot when they go 3 wide. We considered Smith last round, happy to see him here and although we didn’t feel great early in the draft about our WRs we like our depth now.

Round 11 saw nothing too special (until the end, more on that in a minute) although we did see both the Vikings and Eagles D go which disappointed us as we had our eye on both. Also saw Earnest Graham, RB, TB go with pick 11.08 – that’s a pick we like a lot in the 11th round. As was Willis McGahee with the 10th pick of round 11.

The final pick of round 11 and the first of round 12 (remember, 15 rounds in this mock draft) were interesting. Not surprising – we knew they’d come – they’ll come in all early drafts. And of course with the snake style draft order these picks were by the same owner.
Pick 11.12 Plaxico Burress
Pick 12.1 Brett Favre
Very high risk (these guys may not even play in the league this season) but very high reward. If they are do they among the best at their position. If you have room on your roster, it’s not a bad play to grab them and at least in this draft that meant end of the 11th round.

A few more TE’s go to start the 10th, solid guys who make our case for waiting on taking a TE.
All seen on Twitter!

Then a few good risky plays that could payoff nicely. Jerious Norwood went 10.4 and Laurence Maroney 10.6 – Two RBs that could see some carries and end up earning more by being rather productive which makes them a nice 10th round pick.

We need both a 2nd QB and 4th WR. Still 3-4 QBs we’d be happy with as our 2nd but we still see one WR who is a solid choice above the guys around him.

With the 10th pick in the 10th round FantasyDraftEdge.com selects Chris Cambers, WR, SD
Was last year the beginning of the end for Chambers or the exception that drops him to solid value in the 10th round of a fantasy football draft? We’ll find out with him on our bench.

The 10th round concluded with back-to-back rookie WRs with Earl Bennett and Percy Harvin. Probably a bit early for Harvin but it’s getting the time in the draft when you’re taking chances.

Every pick continues to be tweeted!

By the 9th round most teams have starters for the key spots – QB, RB, WR, TE and a few goofs already have a DEF/ST for their roster. Fortunately (for them), nobody has taken a kicker yet.

The 9th round started TE, TE which didn’t change our strategy. Our strategy as the 9th round starts is best player available. Improve our depth as much as possible.

We considered Willis McGahee, but we also considered Le’Ron McClain and thus the problem; especially since Ray Rice is likely the front runner for the #1 job.

We also looked at another WR but feel like there will be talented guys in round 10 that aren’t that much different from the guys available now. So, despite being in a 2 RB starts league and having 3 RBs already…..

With the 3rd pick in the 9th round FantasyDraftEdge.com selects Felix Jones, RB, DAL
Expect the Cowboys to use Jones in more formations this season and work hard to get this dynamic player the ball.

Round 9 finished off as expected with a few nice backup RBs and WRs getting selected and another defense taken too early – especially considering the guy doesn’t have a TE yet….

Stay tuned for our mock draft round 10 pick and thoughts on anything else noteworthy in the round.

And don’t forget….follow it all on Twitter!

Every pick still being tweeted on Twitter – Check out Fantasy Football on Twitter

Round 8 we may look for a TE but do have a few guys on our mind that might continue to slip – if they are still out there it will be tough to pass them up.
One of those guys was Hines Ward who went with the 5th pick in the 8th round - could be a steal.
3 picks later Coles was another WR we had our eye on.

Then the first 2 defenses went – WAY too early in our opinion. If you’re counting on your defense to win you a fantasy football league you are in trouble. And 8th round pick on a defense just doesn’t make sense to us.

With the 10th pick in the 8th round FantasyDraftEdge.com selects Kellen Winslow, TE, TB
From a personal stand point I’m not at all a big fan of this guy. But this isn’t personal and when he decides to focus, gives max effort and be at his best he is very talented and will produce. A fresh start and a new situation could lead to the WR like numbers we saw in ’06 and ’07.

Round 7 of our mock draft as seen pick-by-pick on Twitter started with the selection of LeSean McCoy, rookie RB in Philly. Not a bad stretch, even if slightly early. McCoy was expected to see some carries this season and with Westbrook perhaps not 100% when the season starts that may happen more quickly in great quantity. However it should be noted that in summer practice this week veteran Lorenzo Booker seemed to be getting more carries.

Pick 2 of the 2nd round saw the QB we were likely going to take get snagged – Ben Roethlisberger, QB PIT. Oh well – it happens often in fantasy football drafts; we can’t let is throw our concentration on – we must press forward.

With the 3rd pick of the 7th round FantasyDraftEdge.com selects Jay Cutler, QB, Chi
We could no longer wait on a QB and although we aren’t HUGE fans of Cutlers’ we stay true to our cheat sheet and take the highest rated QB left on it!

Nothing too shocking to finish round 7. We did see Julius Jones go with pick 7.07 - we wouldn’t have minded seeing him in another round or so….potential is there.

Round 6 saw QBs Kurt Warner, Tony Romo, Donovan McNabb and Matt Ryan go ahead of our pick. We might have gone Romo or McNabb if they had lasted to us.

Ray Rice, Santana Moss and Lendale White were all also on our radar before going ahead of us in this round.

All picks on our Twitter Fantasy Football Page!

Our debate came down to DeSean Jackson, Hines Ward, or Jay Cutler. We worry about Jackson still being too young and Hines Ward getting too old. Cutler brings too many question marks in a new system with a new team..

So we went with trusting our cheat sheet. Although as the season approaches the Fantasy Draft Edge cheat sheets will change often, right now our highest ranked player is DeSean Jackson

With the 10th pick in the 6th round FantasyDraftEdge.com selects DeSean Jackson, WR, PHI

We’ll see what QBs go in the next 4 picks before our 7th round pick comes wrapping around but it’s likely we’ll need to pull the trigger on a starting QB next.
