As picks continue to unfold on our Fantasy Football Twitter Page we’ve been discussing our thoughts about our draft round by round. Last round we debated about taking a defense or a backup QB but had a WR we liked to give us some much needed depth.
As we get to round 12 the backup QB is very important. Perhaps we should have already taken one earlier as we don’t have a top 5 guy as our number 1 but several good QBs continued to stay on the board as other owners took defenses and TEs too early so we waited.
At this point one big factor is a QBs opponent the week your #1 guy is on a bye week. This is a bigger factor if you do have a top 5 or so QB who is essentially a no brainer start every week. But despite lacking this QB we looked at bye weeks. We started this process right after our 11th round pick – we aren’t that guy – the one who doesn’t start thinking about his next pick until it’s his turn. There are many reasons not to be that guy.
With a great many picks to come before our next selection all of this could blow up in our face but as of now we have QBs on our radar 7 QBs on our radar, 6 really since free agent Brett Favre is one of them – that’s a risky play and someone will take him before we would (with our last pick). The opponents they face are v Jax, v Oak, v Cin, v Was, v NE, v Pit
So there are 3 that get eliminated pretty quickly (at least knocked down) as we’d rather not have to start our backup QB against NE, Pit or Jax but the other side of the coin we’d love to have a guy at home vs Oak, Cin or Was. So we waited to see how rounds 11 and 12 unfolded before our next pick. We really only have 2 left as we need a DEF and K.
Round 11 concluded with none of our QBs being taken, but then round 12 came along…
And for the first 6 picks, no QB was taken.
Then pick 12.7 saw Eli Manning (at Oakland during Cutler’s bye week)
When our pick rolled around, surprisingly, we had all the rest of our 2nd QBs still available.
With the 10th pick in the 12th round FantasyDraftEdge.com selects Trent Edwards, QB, Buf
With Lee Evans and T.O. he certainly has weapons to throw to and the potential for big plays on every snap.
