Darren McFadden Starts for Raiders?

Reports out of Oakland continue to indicate that Darren McFadden will be used in a variety formats and several plays are designed specifically to get McFadden the ball.

We’ve been inching McFadden up our cheat sheets all summer long – this guy is an amazing talent and it appears the Raiders are ready to take advantage of it.

Darren McFadden Impressive in Minicamp

We’ve said it before, it’s May and it’s minicamp. But….Darren McFadden really looked good this past weekend for the Raiders.

The Raiders, once again, seem to be in a position to take a step forward and not suck this season. But that’s been a common story in the Spring and Summer with this team for a while now and fantasy owners can tell you it simply hasn’t happened. But once again with some additional weapons and some early positive reports on Russell the Raiders offense looks like it might have some guys worth having on your roster.

The most exciting of these players for fantasy purposes may be Darren McFadden. With the quick growth of the so called “wildcat” formation McFadden seems very well suited to get many more opportunities this season from several different looks.

His potential seems to still have him going too high in drafts but if we continue to see this kind of effort from this talented back we’ll likely have McFadden moving up our player rankings on our cheat sheets.

JaMarcus Russell looking good early

Always need to take Spring mini camps with a grain of salt but ESPN.com is reporting that Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell is in much better shape than a year ago. Additionally in early May practices Russell looked strong throwing an impressive deep ball – something the Raiders didn’t do much last year.

Our stance here is certainly wait and see – as it often is this time of year – particularly with Russell. We’ve never believed too strongly that JaMarcus Russell would be a solid NFL fantasy football quarterback. We’ll admit we’re wrong if in fact some new weapons and increased experience lets Russell realize the talent that made him the #1 overall pick. Until we see it with some very impressive numbers in the pre-season the Raiders QB stays low on our cheat sheet player rankings.
